Quantum Inspirations

I’ve been reading the Second book of Bryan Davis’ “Echoes on the Edge” series, titled “Eternity’s Edge”. For those of you who don't already know, Echoes on the Edge is a book series written by the author of the bestselling series "Dragons in our Midst". I've only just started reading “Eternity’s Edge”. (Haven't read the first book yet, but that's what you get for buying books at a Goodwill).

Anyway, I'll try to cut to the chase.

Reading his book last night while winding down from a busy day, I found myself totally enthralled with the idea of different dimensions being opened through music, which is the evident theme for the book. Music has always been an important part of life; it affects everything, from my mood in the car, to my writings, and even the way I talk at times. To me, the thought of Music affecting not just my mood, but also dimensions of time and space is absolutely riveting. Enchanting. Alluring. Absolutely Inspiring.

So, like a good daughter, I decided to talk to my mom about it. And do you want to know what she said?

Mom: Yeah, I've known about that for awhile. It's called Quantum Physics.

Well, you'd think I'd have thought of that beforehand!

But my denseness aside, I still think it is a wonderful idea. Really! I’m already convinced that God must be a singer, or else why would music affect human kind so entirely? Even Lucifer was the lead worshiper in heaven before his head got too big and he decided to make himself into something he wasn’t.

God loves music. He really does. A few years back while watching the Trinity Broadcasting Network (or TBN), they were doing a program on crickets: crickets of all things! But what they actually did was record a cricket chirping at regular speed and then slowed the recording down for human ears. The results were astounding. Slowed down to the frequency of a normal human’s ears, the chirping became a beautiful heavenly symphony. Even crickets are God’s worshipers!

“… Even the very stones will cry out…”

Yes, they will!

According to an article my mom was reading to me on the Elijah List a few months back, scientists have now proven that music can change the course of different events.

This stuff is astounding people! God is so amazing!!! And it opens up all sorts of interesting questions for my overly active mind to mull over.

What if, instead of speaking things into being, He sang them into existence? What if music really is the essential key to the secrets to the dimensions of time and space? What if musical notes played or sang in the correct order really could open the door to a new world, or close the door to an old one?

I feel excitement build in my chest every time I think of it! The possibilities are endless. I simply must go and write.

And that’s exactly what I’m planning to do. I’ve started planning out another book titled either “The Keeper” or “Guardian”. Both simple titles for a relatively complicated idea. I won’t bother with the details just yet as I’m only just starting to sketch them out. But as the theory of Quantum Physics is relatively well known worldwide, I figured I would share the wonder of the idea with you, my faithful readers.

And I also want to challenge those who are willing to write a short story based on this theory and post it in this thread. It should be interesting to see what you come up with. :)

Nichole,

I'm glad you're enjoying Eternity's Edge. The entire series was fun to write, a truly mind-bending experience. I hope you get to read the other two books as well.

If you have questions, feel free to email me bryan@dragonsinourmidst.com

Hmmm. From what you've written, I would have thought you'd read Kathy Tyer's "Firebird" trilogy. Kathy is a musician (flute player) and there music plays an amazing roll in all three books. You may or may not want to read them, depending on if you want to potentially alter your ideas before you even begin!

But I agree. Music is the most basic way humans can connect with one another, but it's also the most complex, especially when we don't agree on it! Too bad the majority of music is so filled with evil. The mainstream music industry is so messed up I often wonder if it's beyond repair. You make a good point: Lucifer was the lead worshiper in heaven before his head got too big and he decided to make himself into something he wasn’t. (Like the way you phrased that!) Because of that, I believe music can be used for good or it can be used for evil. It's sad how much music falls into the latter category, especially for me, since I'm a HUGE music lover; I sometimes have problems finding new bands that are both Christian and interesting.

Thanks Mr. Davis. I'm planning to read the other two books as soon as I can. I'm really enjoying this one.

I'm glad you decided to drop by. I might just take you up on that offer. This will be a new type of venture for me, and I will probably be grateful for any help I get by the time I'm finished. Your expertise will be most welcome! :)

Eldra: Hmmm... no, I haven't read the Firebird trilogy yet, but it sure sounds interesting. I'll have to look into it. And also, at this stage of brainstorming, changes and moderations are welcomed! :)

I also agree with you whole-heartedly. Music can be used for good or evil... I saw a documentation on that on TBN a couple years ago: it was really creepy, but oh so very true. I won't go into details; lets just say, some music should never, ever be publisized or heard. *shivers*

I do agree that it is difficult to find good music that is christian and interesting... not to mention inspiring. I enjoy listening to contempory Christian, and Celtic music. I also listen to some country, but with country music you have to be really careful. However, if you know what to look for, you can find some amazing things on country albums: like the new song "there is a God" (and don't ask me for the artist, 'cause I truely can't remember her name. :D )

I love the Echoes from the Edge series. The ideas of music echoed in the universe is really exciting...is there a link to this documentary somewhere?

Haha! I'm afraid I couldn't help you with the artist because country music definitely isn't my genre. I will have to look into Celtic music, though. Any artists you recommend?

Also, if we're repulsed by an evil song, we don't even want to think about what the music video is like. I'm sure more than one artist comes to mind. I've noticed that even (some) Christian music videos are getting weirder and weirder. For example, Project 86's video for their song "The Spy Hunter." I know there's probably a story behind why it is the way it is, but if they don't share it, we have to use our imaginations as to why they chose to do what they did. Even some bands that I absolutely love (namely: Skillet) have really "changed" in recent years. You have to wonder what's actually going on with the bands.

Oh, and there are two version of the Firebird trilogy. I've never read the old one, so I couldn't say which is better to read. I've heard that the newer ones are more spiritual than the first ones.

Oh, Mr. Bryan himself dropped by! Awesome!

Almost done with my short story, sorry it's taking so long... Oh, and do you have any opinions (ideas might be a better word) on third person/second person transition? I have two--wait, no, three, er, four, I mean--transitions in my short story. It's the first second person prose I've ever written, so I'd like to make sure I'm doing it right. :D

And for something that actually has to do with the post...

I was a little disapproving when I heard you read the second book first... (Just kidding, lol). I'm a bit of a stickler when it comes to order. I won't even read another book if I can't find the one I'm reading. Seriously. :D

Oops, this became rather long... I'm done now, however. :D

I'm reminded of how Aslan sang Narnia into existence.
Creation through song.
Work that in with quantum physics, and yes, the story potential is limitless.
By the way, I've passed on the "Happiness 101" blogging award to you, 'cause I enjoy your blog. It's over at my blog, waiting for you!

I do the same thing Jake! Don't know why though. . .

Galadriel: I have no idea if there is a link; I only watched part of it on TV and didn't wait to see if they had a page for it. sorry!

Eldra: For celtic music, I love to listen to Eden's Brige (which is christian celtic), but also I listen to Celtic Women, The High Kings,Enya, and Clannad. And also a bunch of CD's with various artists... you can find them at B&B in the music section, probably under "international".

Jake: I often find that I pick up the second book in a series (accidentally) first. The same thing happened to me when I was reading The Inheritence cycle... I accidentally bought "Eldest" first without realizing it was the second book! *shakes head.*

Brad: I know what you mean. I love that section of Narnia! C.S. Lewis is such an inspiration to all fantasy writers today!!! :)

The Inheritance Cycle is pretty good. :D
