Something Totally Unrelated to What We've Been Talkin' 'Bout...

Ok, so I know we've been talking about the Great Publishing Debate, and believe me... this theme WILL continue for a while.  But right now I'm at a bit of a "pausing" point.  I'm interviewing some people, but it's taking a while, so while we are waiting for that, I thought I'd share my latest digital painting, titled "Rejection".

"Rejection" was painted using Gimp and my wacom tablet.  It was created for The 100 Theme Challenge that I decided to take on www.deviantart.com.

I've been working on skin tone and coloring a lot lately, as well as highlighting and shadow, and trying to make my subjects appear more "solid".  I've been getting much better with that: working with human forms has helped, of course.  The thing I've recently been playing with are the different colors that skin tone consists of.  If you'll notice, there's some green, blue, purple, and a little gold in his coloring.  Plus the ice blue highlighting.  I like the effect.  This painting was done using a reference, not something I use a lot when I'm painting digitally as it is, essentially, a pain to my eyes.  When I using graphite I use references all the time, but it's different when you have to split your computer screen up so that you can see both images, and my computer screen isn't all that big.

Well, that's all I have to say for now about this.  Let me know what you think in the comments.

No offense taken. Which is why I figured I'd ask. :) I knew it was an iffy subject and I didn't want to offend anyone else. It's a bit "riske" even for me. But I think its a bit of a different situation since I'm a 22 year old female. :D

I'd move the lady from my featured gallery so that people could visit my art page without fear, but I don't have a paid account... just a free one... so I can't do that.

I could take her off, I guess... but I really am happy with how she turned out. hmmm...

Thanks for letting me know Jake. :)

Hey, the painting you posted is neat! :D

Oh, and I checked out your art page, and while I thought the lady you did is pretty impressive, I also think it would prove... a stumbling block, perhaps? for the guys ;) Just so you know, though, I really, really liked it. :D

PS how did you do his eyes?? they look amazing! (I have a few drawings I want to "color in" digitally, so it's been a point of interest lately ;)

Thanks Director. :D

Stumbling block: exactly. That's why I asked, and I don't want that. It's also why I decided to change the post. :) Now instead of a question at the bottom, there's a warning about the fact that I can't move her yet from my featured gallery because I don't have enough artwork to take her place. I don't want anyone stumbling because of me. And like I said, it's probably different for me. well... it is.

How did I do his eyes? Idk... just worked on them, I guess... Eyes are fun,and so is hair. It's lips, nose, and hands that are HARD! :p It helps if you have fun painting them.

If it's been a point of interest to you, I suggest looking up some tutorials. I can send you links to good, clean ones I've found online that I found very helpful. On DA I've discovered that if you write click on the image when you're on that image's page, you can download the picture... I try only to do this with tutorials: they are made to be shared. I do this with other paintings as long as it's ok with the artist, and, of course, I only download paintings for personal desktop use and not for anything online. But this way I have them for reference even when I'm offline. :D

If you want more tips, just ask. I'll try and answer the best I can. :)

Interesting image. I can't draw or sketch...I just do "digital collages."

How do you do this?! I am terrible at anything that has to do with a computer, TV etc.

lol! It's basically the same with painting, only you're working on a computer. Working on a computer can be helpful, though, because you can zoom in incredibly close to get the ultimate amount of detail. Basically it just takes practice. I'm still working on getting the hang of it, but it's lots of fun. :D
