A Short, Sweet Reminder

Just thought I'd post a quick reminder about the contest being hosted on my blog in honor of C.S. Lewis and the opening of the new university in his name.  submissions will be opening on Saturday, May 1rst, which is only a few days away!  I know some of you are already working on a piece for the contest and I can't wait to read what everyone has.  But for those of you who haven't decided whether to enter yet, or if you might be interested but aren't sure of the requirements and whatnot, you can find out more info here:

Okay, I'm just about to start it... I'm having trouble with the mythology thing, any ideas?

Well, let me think... You've read C.S. Lewis' books, I assume. (well, I'm sure you have... who hasn't, right?) It is my thought that you just include something mythilogical; you can even build on them. After C.S. did. Look at centaurs, for example... in real mythology, only Chiron was wise and kind towards humans... the others were wild and stole women. But in Narnia, all the centaurs are looked up to and revered for thier wisdom.

Wait, here's another idea; you're writing a fantasy book, right? if it's placed in another land, I'm sure your world has myths and legends of its own; I know mine does. You could write a story about one of those myths, as long as you make it clear that in that particular world, what you are writing about (or the creature you throw into the story, or whatever...) is a myth. I was even thinking about doing that.

Does that help at all?

Umm... Well, the subtitle is a of my short story is 'A Sadaarin Tale'. It's based off a tale that circulates among the Sadaar, these group of people in my novel. Does that count? If not, I could throw in a paragraph or two about centaurs. :)

I hoping to enter... After today I'll have a little more time to work on an submission!

Jack, I think that would work, if you make sure somehow to let the reader know that it is a legend or myth. Then I see no reason for it not to qualify.

Good! I'll throw in the centaur bit for good measure. :)
