Book Review: The Lightlings

Ok, so we're just going to put a pause on this series about Traditional Publishing vs. Self publishing, and we'll get back to it when I feel like I have more information and content to offer.  :D

In the mean time, I've been reading like crazy lately.  It's like the reading bug bit me and I just can't stop.  I read anything I can get my hands on, and right now that's a lot of new material since I have a large pile of new books to read in my bedroom right now.  I just pull new titles from them whenever I want to.

But I'm also on some Blogger Book Review programs, which I enjoy very much as I am allowed and actually encouraged to read books and give my open opinion about them.  Most of you know I usually read and review YA or Middle Grade fantasy or science fiction books.  But last week I came across a picture book open for review and was immediately drawn in by the absolutely gorgeous cover art and the intriguing book blurb.

The Lightlings is about a young boy who wants to know why people are afraid of the dark.  Then his Grandpa tells the little boy that some people are also afraid of the light.  When the boy asks what his grandpa means, his Grandpa tells a story about these Creatures called Lightlings, made by the King without a Shadow who is the king of all light.  But these lightlings did something bad and, feeling so ashamed of their deed, they decided to run away from the garden of light and hide out in the dark forest where they thought the King of Light could never find and punish them.  However the King of light knew where they were, and he loved them so much that he decided to come to them... and he came in a form that nobody expected.

The Lightlings is a beautiful and simple rendition of The Great Story... of how God loved the world so much that he sent his son down to us.  The pictures are absolutely gorgeous... I mean, just breathtaking.  This is something I would love to read to my youngest sister at night before bed.

So even though this isn't my normal type of review, I definitely give this book 2 thumbs up and a 5 out of 5 star rating.  You can check the book out for yourself at http://www.ligonier.org/store/lightlings-hardcover/

I recieved this book as a pdf free through Ligionier's blogger book review program.
